4 SEF tips on how to make every week Earth Week

By making simple changes in our daily lives we can make a difference in the world around us. Here are a few simple ways your teen can celebrate Earth week at home… any time of the year!
1. Say NO to single-use plastic
Take a pledge against plastic and say NO to plastic bottles, bags & straws. Challenge your friends and family to join your efforts!
2. Up-cycle your clothes
You can donate clothes you no longer wear or with minimal effort, they can also be turned into cool new items for your wardrobe!
3. Make a statement
Check with your middle or high school administrator to see if your school has an Environmental Mission Statement. If not, with approval from them, you can help to develop one. You can also get started on your first community awareness action item once you get back on campus: inquire about the development and organization of a school-wide mural project where students can leave individual pledges such as “I will turn off the lights when I leave the room”
Need help? Your family, friends, neighbors and volunteers at the San Gabriel Educational Foundation may be available to help!
4. Get some fresh air
Staying inside the house during these days of isolation, we can get caught up in what’s happening on Instagram, or with our favorite tv series, that we forget how much fun it is to be outside. Earth Day is a reminder of how beautiful and awesome our planet is. Take advantage of it! If you have a backyard, spend the afternoon outdoors reading, having lunch, or just taking in deep breaths of the fresh air. If your outdoor space is limited, try going for a walk at an off-hour when the streets are quieter… and remember to wear your mask.
We hope this post inspires all our families to make a pledge to “Do One Thing.”
