Supporting Public Education in San Gabriel
Established in 1986 in response to devastating federal and education budget cuts, the San Gabriel Educational Foundation (SEF) was organized by a small group of parents, community leaders, and local business owners committed to enhancing and supplementing the curriculum of San Gabriel public schools. With incredible foresight, this group of individuals understood private donations were critical to providing a quality education for all children. Thereby strengthening the schools and the community from within.
For over thirty years now, the foundation has endured as a community driven fundraising organization continuing to play a significant role in supporting academic and enrichment opportunities across eight campuses. Operating under the leadership of the SEF Board President, today the SEF Board of Directors consists of dedicated parents and community members representative of the diverse community served. This group of dynamic individuals raises funds through its annual fund campaign, business partnerships and special events. Funds raised are allocated towards programs that inspire learning, enrich teaching, promote mental health and wellness, promote innovation and academic excellence in the schools, and ensure that all students thrive.
As the primary fundraising partner of the San Gabriel Unified School District (SGUSD), SEF is the only parent organization that is permitted to fund educators and programs on the school sites. SEF partners with parent organizations and the wider community to help ensure that the needs of students and teachers are met. For example, SEF provides full funding to ensure the high school library is open after the last school bell, the school site parent organization can pay for books.
The San Gabriel Educational Foundation is a California non-profit, public benefit corporation. It is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The federal tax ID number for the foundation (EIN) is 95-4023144. Since inception SEF has provided a means for parents and the community to invest in public education and has donated over $1,000,000 to date. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
