San Gabriel Educational Foundation Receives an $8,000 Grant Award from the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts
Funds will be used to provide vital funding for the Kindergarten through Third Grade Music Instructional Program at all five public elementary schools in the community.
The San Gabriel Educational Foundation (SEF), the primary fundraising partner of the San Gabriel Unified School District (SGUSD), has received an $8,000 Grand Award from the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts in support of their K-3 Music Program.
SEF is incredibly honored to be chosen as a grant award recipient this year. The grant award will contribute to SEF’s Kindergarten through Third Grade Music Instructional Program at all five public elementary schools in the community. The current program which is funded by SEF, through community and parent donations received through the annual “Fund the Gap” campaign provides 10 instructional classes at each of the elementary sites throughout the academic year.
“We are thrilled the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts has selected SEF as one of its 2014 grantees,” stated SEF Board President Lori Husein. “The K-3 Music Program is a valued program in our community and the grant will allow SEF to maintain the program and works towards an increase in instructional minutes for our students. We are extremely grateful for their investment in our children”.
The San Gabriel Educational Foundation, a 501© (3) organization, is the primary fundraising partner for the San Gabriel Unified School District. Since its inception in 1986, SEF has raised over $1,000,000 towards the funding of a variety of educational programs and supplies that benefit every student, in every classroom, in the district. The Foundation supports the SGUSD in preparing its students for their future as productive citizens and lifelong learners. Since 1948, Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts has awarded 19 million dollars in gifts and grants to support the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Walt Disney Concert Hall, or other nonprofit organizations and local symphonic, cultural and educational musically oriented programs for youth.

SEF would like to thank the Hilton for the $28,000 donation! This gift marks the fourth annual significant gift to Foundation from the Hilton, with the foundation receiving $106,000 from the Hilton since 2010.
This is such a generous donation to SEF which will help support the Foundation’s “Fund the Gap” Campaign, currently underway. With a goal of raising $150,000 by June 30, 2014, “Fund the Gap” is targeted to help San Gabriel schools bridge the financial gap created by the state education budget shortfalls. The Campaign is earmarked to help fund K-3 music instruction, elementary visual arts instruction, performing art curriculum at Jefferson Middle School, college counseling support at Gabrielino High School, and many other vital programs and curriculum at all eight schools in the San Gabriel Unified School District (SGUSD) for the 2014-2015 academic year. All K-12 students in the District will benefit from the “Fund the Gap” Campaign.
With this donation, SEF is thrilled to once again honor the Los Angeles/San Gabriel Hilton as the Event Sponsor for SEF’s upcoming benefit gala, “SEF-apalooza!” The fourth annual fundraising event will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the San Gabriel Country Club, and will feature fine dining, an incredible silent auction, spirited live auction, music and dancing. This donation also provides the Hilton with their continued partnership as a Platinum Sponsor in our SEF Business Alliance Program, which provides opportunity for local businesses to partner with SEF to support San Gabriel Unified Schools and promote their business.

We would like to once again thank our very generous donor, Alexander’s Meats, for their incredible display of hors d’oeuvres at our recent fundraiser. Attendees at the event enjoyed the delicious appetizers before being served a fabulous dinner, again on behalf of incredible donors. The SEF Board of Director’s would like to extend a sincere thank you for the show of support we received from our community for our “Twilight in Venice” dinner event on Saturday. The event was great fun, with fabulous music, delicious food and of course wonderful company.
Funds raised which will be allocated towards program support in all 8 of our schools. A special thanks goes out to all of our generous donors who’s generosity was an integral part of the evenings success. SEF would like to thank the GHS Booster Club for their recent donation to the foundation. GHS Booster Club President, Shalla Rubalcava and SEF/GHS Golf Tournament Chair, Ken Tcheng presented the funds as a result of the successful 1st annual SEF/GHS Golf Tournament held in May. The GHS Booster Club partnership with the foundation demonstrates their deep commitment to the mission of our organization.
